Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) TestIn the VDRL/RPR serum dilution test, the blood sample is serially diluted and mixed with a non-treponemal antigen (like cardiolipin). If syphilis antibodies are present in the diluted serum, they will cause clumping with the antigen, forming visible precipitates or flocculation, indicating a positive result. The highest dilution that still shows this clumping is known as the titer, which quantifies the antibody level and helps monitor disease progression or response to treatment.
