Typical adult range: about 2.5–4.5 mg/dL (0.81–1.45 mmol/L), though the laboratory's reference range may differ.
High phosphorus: can occur with kidney problems, certain hormonal disorders, or excessive phosphate intake.
Low phosphorus: can occur with vitamin D deficiency, certain hormonal conditions, malnutrition, or some medications.
It is often interpreted together with calcium, vitamin D, parathyroid hormone (PTH), and kidney-function tests.
