Types of Pancreatic Tests:
Blood Tests:
These tests measure the levels of specific enzymes (like amylase and lipase), blood glucose, and tumor markers (like CA19-9) in the blood.
Imaging Tests:
These tests use technology like ultrasound, CT scans, MRI scans, and EUS (endoscopic ultrasound) to create images of the pancreas and surrounding tissues, helping identify abnormalities like inflammation or tumors.
Pancreatic Function Tests:
These tests, less common, assess how well the pancreas is producing and releasing enzymes and other substances in response to a hormone (secretin).
Biopsy:
In some cases, a biopsy (taking a small tissue sample) may be done to examine the pancreas for cancer or other abnormalities, often performed during EUS.
Stool Tests:
These tests, specifically stool elastase tests and fecal fat analysis, can be used to assess the pancreas's ability to produce digestive enzymes.
